Pie in the Sky: chefs serve up dishes at 100ft in the air

The food service from The Cook School Scotland will be taken to new heights when it teams up with Festival in the Sky this summer.

A team of chefs, led by none other than three Michelin Star chef Steven Doherty – a regular on STV’s The Hour – will take on a daring challenge to prepare and serve tasty Scottish dishes at a dining table suspended at more than 100ft in the air.

Twenty-two lucky diners at the dinner table, which will float above West Princes Gardens in Edinburgh, will not only get to sample fantastic fare, but will also see spectacular views of Edinburgh’s skyline.

Seats at the Festival in the Sky dinner table start from just £30 per head and are available from 10am-9.30pm daily, from August 1-31.

In the past the dining event has been a big hit all over the world from France to the USA and Canada, but this year its Scotland’s turn to wow diners. They’ll be treated to delicious dishes for breakfast, lunch or dinner, from bilinis with smoked salmon mousse to pressed pork and caramelised shallot terrine, and Rannoch smoked venison.

Foodies will also get the chance to pick up top tips from the cookery demonstrations which will be staged at the Festival in the Sky, while suspended in the air.

Speaking about his involvement in the festival, Steven Doherty said: “Having been such a roaring success from Monaco to Las Vegas, The Cook School Scotland is delighted to be involved in the premier of Festival in the Sky this year in Edinburgh. This will be an unforgettable experience.

“The Cook School will be using Scottish produce to create an uplifting menu to raise diners’ spirits this August and we’re looking forward to cooking and serving up in one of the most unique positions in the world.  Thankfully our chefs have a good head for heights and are up for anything!”
