A man's body has been found near a road a leading off the M8 on the outskirts of Livingston.

The discovery was made just off the A899 Broxburn to Livingston road, near Junction 3 of the M8, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday.

The body has not yet been identified and police remain at the scene. The find comes three weeks after 23-year-old Livingston man Matthew Elmer was reported missing. Mr Elmer was last seen in the Craigshill area of the town on Saturday, February 13.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in West Lothian responded to the A899, near Livingston, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, March 8, following the discovery of a man's body.

"Inquiries at the scene are ongoing and further updates will be provided when available.

"The slip road from the M8 westbound at Junction 3 to the A899 is currently partially closed, but vehicles can still exit the M8 and use the Deer Park roundabout.

"This is leading to some minor delays and the public are thanked for their patience at this time."
