Rescue teams are searching the Fife coastline for a missing Kirkcaldy man as concerns for his safety "grow by the hour".

Stuart Craig, 26, was last seen near Victoria Hospital on Yetholm Way at around 10.45pm on Friday, having cycled there from Dunsire Street.

Police launched an extensive search operation involving the coastguard and RNLI on Tuesday.

Teams are focusing their efforts in Kirkcaldy and along the coastline between Leven and Kinghorn.

Specialist police units including the police helicopter and search dogs are also being used.

Officers issued a renewed appeal for information about Mr Craig's whereabouts and said his disappearance was out of character.

He is described as 6ft 6in with a slim build, a pierced lip, a tattoo of a spider on his right elbow and a tattoo of a flaming skull on his left forearm.

Mr Craig, who also has a pierced left eyebrow, was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, a grey hooded top, blue jeans and dark boots.

He was riding a grey-coloured bicycle with distinctive red handlebars, which had the words 'Big Hit' written on the frame in red lettering.

Community inspector Graeme Neill said: "Our concern for Stuart is growing by the hour and we want to hear from anyone who may have seen him or who has information on his whereabouts.

"From our inquiries we believe Stuart may be in the Kirkcaldy area or may have travelled to the Fife coastline, which he knows very well.

"We believe that Stuart was on his bike, which has quite distinctive markings and I would ask anyone who has seen this bike to come forward immediately.

"Again, if Stuart sees this appeal, I would ask him to contact either police or your family to let us know you are okay."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
