A driver has been charged after a two-car crash during a police chase in Fife at the weekend.

The 27-year-old man faces various road traffic offences following the incident in Oakley, near Dunfermline, on Sunday.

The silver Honda was pursued by police after failing to stop when signalled to by officers.

It collided with a blue Renault Scenic car on Sir George Bruce Road a short time later, at around 4pm.

Two elderly people who were in the Renault were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.

The man is due to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Thursday, June 9.

Police referred the incident to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc).

A Pirc spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland has referred the circumstances surrounding a road traffic incident in Oakley, Fife, on Sunday May 15 to the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner.

"We are currently in the process of assessing whether there is a requirement to investigate the matter."

The incident in Fife took place just three days after a woman was killed by a car which was being chased by police.

Nurse Jill Pirrie, 33, died after being struck by a Ford Ka on Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh, on Thursday night.

The mother-of-one had been walking home from a shift at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary when the incident happened.
