Delta Air Lines has launched its first flights between Edinburgh and New York.

The first airliner from John F Kennedy airport landed in the capital on Friday morning after the trip across the Atlantic.

VisitScotland claims the new route has the potential to generate £23m for the tourism industry each year.

The US is Scotland's biggest tourism market, with around half a million people visiting annually.

Frank Jahangir, Delta's vice-president of sales for Europe, said: "As the only year-round non-stop flight between Edinburgh and New York-JFK, we are confident that the route will expand trade and tourism opportunities."
