Killer couple Rachel Trelfa and Nyomi Fee have been moved to separate prisons as they wait to be sentenced for the murder of Liam Fee.

Trelfa and her civil partner Fee were convicted of killing the toddler at their home near Glenrothes, Fife, on March 2014.

They were sent to Cornton Vale women's prison in Stirlingshire after they were found guilty at the High Court in Livingston last month after an eight-week trial.

It has since emerged Trelfa, Liam's biological mother, was moved to Saughton prison on Tuesday without any warning.

The couple, who were also found guilty of a string of abuse charges against Liam and two other boys in their care, are due to be sentenced on July 6.

The women, originally from Ryton, Tyne and Wear, had blamed Liam's death on another young boy in their care.

They were also found guilty of a catalogue of abuse and neglect of two young boys over more than two years and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

A post-mortem on Liam, who died from blunt force trauma to his chest, found he had up to 30 external injuries all over his body.

The court heard how there had been an "escalation of violence" towards Liam leading up to his death, which included the couple failing to get help for the toddler when they knew he had a broken leg and fractured arm.

Throughout the evidence, Nyomi Fee emerged as the dominant character in the relationship.

Analysis of internet activity revealed the pair's Google searches included: "Can wives go to prison together?" and "how long can you live with a broken bone?" in the days leading up to Liam's death.

Detectives described the case as one of the most horrific they had dealt with.
