A body has been found in a tunnel near a disused railway in Edinburgh.

Officers from British Transport Police were called to the site near the old Abbeyhill Station, off London Road, after a member of the public made the grim discovery on Friday.

The body is believed to have been there for some time.

There is an extensive police presence at the scene and an area has been cordoned off.

Forensics officers are also combing the area as investigations continue.

A spokesman for BTP said: "At this stage, enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this death and we are in discussions with the procurator fiscal.

"Officers are working to identify the person and inform any next of kin."
