A car careered off a road and crashed into a fence in Fife, sparking fears of a fuel spillage.

Police responded to a call of a car mounting a pavement at around 3.35pm, with ambulance and fire crews also attending the scene.

A white Suzuki Splash collided with a perimeter fence on West High Street in Buckhaven.

Initially there had been fears the crash had caused fuel to leak out on to the pavement but fire crews were quickly able to determine that there was no risk to life.

A police spokesperson said: "We received a call at 3.35pm that a car had been involved in an incident on West High Street in Buckhaven.

"The driver of the vehicle was uninjured but the passenger was taken to hospital as a precaution."
