The discovery was made at a property on Madeira Street in Leith on Wednesday night.
Police have now launched an investigation into the woman's death and forensics officers have been carrying out inquiries at the scene.
A police spokesman said: "The body of a woman was discovered within a flat on Madeira Street around 7.50pm on Wednesday, August 10.
"The death is being treated as unexplained pending the results of a post mortem."
