A herd of cows prompted traffic disruption after breaking out of a field and walking into a Fife town.

Up to seven cows were reported walking on Torbain Road and Wester Bogie Road on the outskirts of Kirkcaldy at around 7.20am on Friday.

The animals were later seen in the town's Lindores Drive, Fair Isle Road and Grampian Gardens.

After receiving several calls, police were called to the area to direct traffic and the Fair Isle Road was closed off at the junction with Chapel Level and Lindores Drive.

It is believed they came from a farm in the Cardenden area, around five miles away from the housing estate.

They were collected in a trailer at around 10.20am.

Local residents took to Twitter to report sightings of the cattle.
