A pensioner is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Edinburgh.

The 71-year-old pedestrian suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by a silver Proton Satria on Dalry Road at around 10am on Saturday.

The road was closed between the junctions for Orwell Terrace and the Lidl supermarket for around three hours while investigations were conducted at the scene.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he remains in a serious condition.
