Donning their kilts and their comfiest shoes, over 2000 people took to the streets of Edinburgh to raise money for charities in the 2016 Kiltwalk.

Walkers, including STV's Lorraine Kelly and Sean Batty, converged at the BT Murrayfield stadium to warm up for the day's trekking that lay ahead.

Fundraisers could choose between the 26-mile 'Mighty Stride' or the 12-mile 'Big Stroll', while those who fancied a less adventurous route could opt for the five mile 'Wee Wander'.

Sunday's event is the final of four Kiltwalks, following in the footsteps of Glasgow, Aberdeen and Moray.

Routes took in some of Edinburgh's iconic sights, including Arthur's Seat, the Promenade, Leith's Shore and Calton Hill, ending up back at Murrayfield for a well-earned after party.

As a reward for their peripatetic adventures, walkers were treated to live performances from the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Scottish pop heros Bay City Rollers upon their return to the BT Murrayfield stadium.

The Edinburgh event is expected to push the total amount raised past the £1m barrier, with over £700,000 having been issued to charities already through this year's Kiltwalk activities.

The event is backed by Sir Tom Hunter and the Hunter Foundation, which covers the cost of hosting the events meaning 100% of monies raised by walkers goes to a charity of their choice.
