Detectives conclude alleged Edinburgh rape did not happen
A sex attack was reported to have happened on Lothian Road in the early hours of Tuesday.
Detectives investigating a report of a rape near Princes Street have concluded that no crime was committed.
Officers launched an inquiry after a woman reported that she had been raped near a bus stop on Lothian Road in Edinburgh.
The incident was said to have happened in the early hours of Tuesday.
Detective chief inspector Alwyn Bell said: "Officers have carried out extensive enquiries and we are satisfied that no offence has occurred. I would like to thank the public for their assistance this week.
"I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence to come forward and speak to police.
"Dedicated officers will investigate all reports thoroughly and sensitively, with specialist support a priority."
