A man has been arrested after a flaming object was thrown at Edinburgh Central Mosque.

The item caused minor damage to the mosque door and a bush in its gardens during the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning in Potterrow.

Police are treating the fireraising as a hate crime.

On Tuesday, hundreds of people gathered at the mosque as a show of solidarity with the city's Muslim community.

Police said a 28-year-old man has now been arrested and charged in connection with fireraising at the mosque.

The man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.
