Motorists on the M9 are facing average speeds of 26.74mph, according to a new survey.

Vehicle tracking service RAM Tracking said the route between Edinburgh and Stirling is the third slowest section of the UK's motorway network.

It also found that average speeds on the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh were 34.09mph.

The firm used vehicle recording software to gauge average speeds on major routes across the country over the first six months of 2016.

Chris McClellan, chief executive at RAM Tracking, said: "This study has been beneficial for both us as a business as well as enlightening for customers.

"We have discovered some fascinating statistics that will continue to help businesses up and down the country, by showcasing the slowest motorways nationwide."
