Four men were detained by police in Spain after causing a disturbance on a flight from Edinburgh.

Staff on the Ryanair flight called for assistance after the men, who were reported to be drunk, became unruly on the three-hour journey to Alicante on Thursday.

It was reported that a scuffle broke out between two stag parties while other passengers, including young families, looked on in shock.

Four passengers were removed and detained when the plane landed at the airport in southern Spain.

A spokesman said: "The crew of this flight from Edinburgh to Alicante requested police assistance upon landing in Alicante, after four passengers became disruptive in-flight.

"The aircraft landed normally and the individuals were removed and detained by police in Alicante.

"We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for local police."
