A woman and two teenagers who were arrested after the death of a Midlothian girl have been released.

The 42-year-old and the girls, aged 16 and 17, were charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act following the death of Shellie Callaghan over the weekend.

Shellie, 16, took ill at a house party in Newtongrange late on Friday night.

She was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but she was pronounced dead in the early hours of Saturday.

Police issued a drugs warning after her death and said they believed she may have taken ecstasy.

The three people were charged following police raids at properties in Newtongrange, Gorebridge and Easthouses on Monday.

They were due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday but they were liberated before the hearing took place.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal received a report concerning three females aged 43, 17 and 16 years old, in connection with an alleged incident said to have occurred in Newtongrange, Midlothian, on October 14.

"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, they were liberated from custody and did not appear in court. The report remains under consideration."
