A woman was left with serious injuries to her faces after a trio carried out an "unprovoked" attack on her in the street.

The 27-year-old was targeted by two men and a woman in the Borders town of Hawick.

Police said she was punched and kicked in the head and body by the group at the junction of the Loan and Beaconsfield Terrace.

She was taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment for facial injuries after the serious assault at 1pm on Friday.

Constable Ryan Anderson said: "This appears to have been a completely unprovoked assault that left the victim with some painful injuries to her face.

"We are pursuing a number of local inquiries to trace the people who carried out the attack and would ask anyone who saw what happened to contact us immediately.

"It is believed there were a number of members of the public in the area at the time and if you have information relating to this incident then please get in touch."

The suspects are described as being between 35 and 40.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101.
