Two cars plunged into the Firth of Forth after crashing through a wall in Edinburgh.

Emergency services attended the incident on West Shore Road at around 7am on Thursday.

Police Scotland and the coastguard confirmed no one was in the vehicles when they entered the water near Edinburgh College's Granton campus.

An operation to recover them was launched, with the two silver cars being lifted from the rocks.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh responded along with other emergency services to West Shore Road at around 6.55am on Thursday following a report of a car within the water.

"Upon arrival it was established that two vehicles were in the water and efforts are continuing to recover them.

"Enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident."
