A man has been charged after a crash in Edinburgh left two pedestrians needing hospital treatment.

A 60-year-old woman was seriously injured after being struck by a car in Canonmills, Edinburgh, at around 7.40pm on Sunday.

A 71-year-old man was also hit by the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.

A police spokeswoman said: "Road policing officers in Edinburgh have charged a 54-year-old man with careless driving following a collision at Canonmills on Sunday, October 23.

"The collision happened around 7.40pm.

"A 60-year-old female pedestrian sustained serious injuries in the collision and was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (ERI) for treatment.

"A 71-year-old male pedestrian was also conveyed to the ERI for assessment.

"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
