A man was attacked and robbed by a gang of youths who chased him from a playground in Edinburgh.

The 22-year-old victim was walking through a play area towards West Pilton March when he was approached by a group of ten to 15 teenagers on Saturday evening.

The group of male and females, aged between 13 and 16, started shouting at the man before a male member of the group threatened him with a weapon.

The man then ran on to West Pilton March where the gang caught up with him and carried out a "vicious" assault.

The victim later discovered his wallet had been stolen during the incident.

Detective constable Ross Nicol said: "This group targeted a lone man and subjected him to a vicious attack.

"We are eager to trace the young people involved in this incident, particularly the male who threatened the victim with a weapon.

"I would urge anyone who was in the West Pilton area on the evening of Saturday, October 22, and saw anything suspicious, to get in touch with us immediately."

The teenage boy who threatened the man with the weapon is described as white, of medium build with short blonde hair.

He was wearing a grey T-shirt with black sleeves and a Nike logo across on the front.

Some of the teenagers were also riding bikes.
