A man and a woman have been charged over the death of a three-month-old baby girl found injured in a West Lothian homeless unit.

Sophia Williams was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh on May 30 after taking unwell within a facility for homeless families in West Main Street in Broxburn.

She was cared for by medical staff but passed away six days later in hospital.

A 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman have now been charged in connection with her death following a police investigation.

Detective Inspector Rory Hamilton of the Major Investigations Team said: "An 18-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the death of a three-month-old baby girl from Broxburn.

"Sophia Williams passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016, within the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

"A subsequent investigation was launched into her death, led by the Major Investigations Team (MIT), and as a result of this effort two people have now been charged.

"They are expected to appear before Livingston Sheriff Court on Friday, October 28."
