A missing teenage girl who police feared may have left Scotland with an unknown man has been found safe.

Sara Anghel, 15, originally from Romania, left her home in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon after telling her family she was going to the shops but did not return home.

She was last seen leaving the family's house in the city's Walter Scott Avenue at around 4pm. She told them she was heading to the Cameron Toll Shopping Centre

However, the 15-year-old failed to return a major search was launched.

Police confirmed on Wednesday that Sara had been found safe and well on Tuesday night after a significant search.

A statement said: "Police in Edinburgh can confirm that Sara Anghel has now been traced safe and well.

"The 15-year-old was reported missing after being last seen in Walter Scott Avenue on Sunday 30 October. She was traced in the Leith area around 8pm on Tuesday, November 1.

"Officers would like to extend their sincere thanks to the public and media who shared our appeal."
