A 15-year-old boy has been charged over a series of hoax calls made to schools last month.

Secondaries in Midlothian, Forth Valley, West Lothian and Edinburgh were targeted in several phone calls throughout October.

In one of the most recent cases, police were called to Inveralmond Community High, James Young High and St Margaret's Academy in Livingston, Bathgate Academy and Denny High on October 26.

A police spokesman said: "Police Scotland have arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy in connection with a series of malicious phone calls.

"The incidents happened between October 7 and October 31 to a number of high schools in Midlothian, Forth Valley, West Lothian and Edinburgh.

"He will be referred to the children's reporter."
