Jonah Hill has admitted he developed bronchitis - by snorting fake cocaine while filming The Wolf of Wall Street.

The American actor said he contracted the illness on set because of the voluminous vitamin powder he inhaled for the 2013 movie.

Hill, 32, starred as hard-partying stockbroker Donnie Azoff in the film about the life of fraudulent trader Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Appearing on US talk show Any Given Wednesday, Hill said he inhaled the vitamin powder on a daily basis during filming.

Hill's bronchitis, which he battled for three weeks, eventually hospitalised him.

In upcoming movie War Dogs, Hill plays another drug abuser, real life arms dealer Efraim Diveroli.

The film is inspired by the true story of Diveroli and David Packouz who secured a $300 million dollar arms contract with the US government in their early twenties during the war in Afghanistan.
