Hollywood actor Tom Hanks photobombed a newly-married couple's wedding shoot in New York's Central Park - but they don't look as though they mind.

Hanks later posted a selfie of the happy encounter on his Instagram page and congratulated newlyweds Elizabeth and Ryan.

Wedding photographer Meg Miller also posted about the surprise guest on her Facebook page.

She said the wedding was "beautiful" but the "icing on the cake" was when Hanks, who was out for a jog, posed for images with the couple.

Miller told the New York Daily News that Elizabeth and Ryan were taking pictures to mark their happy day when Hanks came over, took off his hat and glasses and said "Hi, I'm Tom Hanks."

After taking a few snaps, Miller said the couple invited Hanks to their wedding reception but he said he had "other plans".

Hanks is well known for his generosity and easy-going nature.

Last year he found a student's id in Central Park and posted an image on Twitter telling her to get in touch so he could return it.
