A message in a bottle has washed up in Scotland after a 4000-mile across the North Atlantic.

The bottle was thrown over the side of a cruise liner in the Bahamas in May 2014 and spent months at sea before being found at Seilebost Beach on Harris.

Medical student Rosie Rayment discovered the bottle during a surfing lesson last week.

She said: "We were walking along Seilebost Beach at when I noticed the bottle, with the message inside it. We picked it up on our way back and smashed it open."

The bottle contained a message from Bruce Roden and his then-fiance Monica Prieto, from Miami in Florida.

Ms Rayment, 22, was able to track the couple down thanks to a phone number they had written on the letter.

She added: "They couldn’t believe it - they told me that I had made their dreams come true by finding their message.

"And they told me that they were now married and if I was ever in Miami, to contact them so we could meet up.”
