A climber injured in a fall 3300ft up the UK's tallest mountain has been rescued by helicopter.

The man hurt his leg and hand in the fall on Sunday and was airlifted off Ben Nevis with the help of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team.

He was flown to Torlundy near Fort William before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "Whilst many places were enjoying the sunny weather yesterday, the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at Inverness were experiencing the last of the snow on Ben Nevis.

"Police Scotland called in the helicopter to help rescue a climber who had fallen and injured his hand and leg 1000 metres above sea level.

"The climber was assisted by the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team before he was airlifted to Torlundy and met by the Scottish Ambulance Service."
