A Scots judo star in a critical condition after a motorbike crash in Vietnam is battling pneumonia.

Stephanie Inglis, from Inverness, suffered serious head injuries when her skirt caught in the wheel of a motorcycle taxi taking her to work and pulled her off the bike on May 12.

The athlete, who won silver at Glasgow 2014, was originally only given a 1% chance of survival.

Her condition has improved but doctors now warn that Ms Inglis' body is rejecting antibiotics she was being given to treat a lung infection.

A fundraising campaign launched by a childhood friend has so far raised nearly £225,000 to pay for her care.

The 27-year-old's Debenhams medical insurance was deemed invalid because of a clause in the fine print of her contract.

In an update posted on Monday night, a spokesman for her family said: "Stephanie's brain swelling is starting to reduce and the pressure is decreasing, although she is still in a coma her chances of recovering from that injury have improved since her surgery last week.

"However, unfortunately with this injury there are and can be side effects. As has been previously mentioned in the media Stephanie developed a lung infection and was being treated with antibiotics, this has now progressed to pneumonia and Stephanie's body is currently rejecting the antibiotics.

"The doctors have put Stephanie on a new antibiotic but the next 48 hours to get this under control are critical.

"We have flown in from Bangkok this evening a specialist in infectious disease who will asses her condition and advise us on what is best for Stephanie."
