A couple who became lost during a hike on Skye got engaged while waiting to be rescued.

The pair called for help after losing their way in thick mist between Glen Brittle and Coruisk on Monday.

While waiting to be found, Peter decided to propose to girlfriend Alexandra, who said yes.

The happy couple, from Krakow, Poland, were rescued by the Skye Mountain Rescue Team shortly afterwards.

A spokesman for Skye MRT said: "It was one of those successful rescues that give you that lovely warm feeling inside.

"Peter and Alexandra had planned to walk from Glenbrittle, over Bealach na Glaic Moire, into Coruisk. Near the ridge, the mist came down and they became lost and called for assistance.

"When the team found them and brought them safely down, Peter informed us that he had proposed to Alexandra while they were waiting and Alexandra said yes."
