A pregnant cow has been put down after being shot in the face in the Highlands.

The shooting is believed to have happened between July 20 and July 22 in the Dunlichity area.

The cow survived the attack but had to be destroyed because of the severity of its injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We are carrying out enquiries into a cow having been deliberately injured and subsequently having been put down.

"This incident is believed to have occurred between July 20 and July 22 in a field in the Dunlichity area.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have information regarding this and can be contacted on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
