A man and woman have been arrested following a six-hour stand-off with riot police in Inverness.

Officers were called to the scene of the incident in Bruce Gardens on Monday afternoon.

Police closed streets around a block of flats before storming the building with riot shields.

Five people were initially detained in connection with the disturbance, before a man and a woman were arrested by police.

A 34-year-old woman is expected to appear in Inverness Sheriff Court on Tuesday over the stand-off, while a 31-year-old man will appear in the court on Wednesday.

Police Scotland said several officers attended the disturbance, as well as personnel from the Scottish Fire and Rescue and Ambulance Service.

The force said roads were closed around Bruce Gardens for approximately six hours during the stand-off.
