A woman has died after a two-car collision near a roundabout in the Highlands.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the smash on Tuesday night after the vehicles collided near on the A835 near Dingwall.

Ambulance crews attended around 10.30pm but one woman, who is yet to be identified, died from her injuries.

Police launched a probe and a stretch of the road was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared and examined by crash investigators.

A statement from the force said: "We can advise that the A835 road was closed between Contin and Maryburgh following a serious road collision.

"Local diversions were in place from the A834 at Contin to Dingwall and from Dingwall A862 to Maryburgh."
