A man has been assaulted by a stranger outside a takeaway in the Highlands.

The man, who was in his 20s, was hit in the face at the Bombay Spice on Bridge Street in Wick.

He was taken to hospital following the incident on Sunday and was discharged a short time later.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 1am on Sunday, a man in his 20s was reportedly struck to the face by a man unknown to him outside the Bombay Spice Takeaway.

"Officers were on foot patrol nearby and attended shortly after. The man was taken to hospital for treatment for facial injuries and later discharged.

"Police are looking to trace a man in connection with the assault described as late thirties or early forties in age, around 5ft 11in tall, with a heavy build, dark, shaved hair, and a local Caithness accent."
