Two bikers have been airlifted to hospital after separate crashes on the A82.

One man suffered life-threatening injuries after his bike was involved in a collision with a car near Drumnadrochit around 11am.

Following the crash the rider ended up at the bottom of an embankment and had to be rescued by firefighters using ropes.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added: "When firefighters arrived they discovered the motorcyclist had ended up down an embankment.

"Using ropes and utilising their working at height skills the crews reached the casualty and extricated them to safety.

"Police, ambulance and the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter were also present.

"The motorcyclist was placed in the care of the coastguard helicopter crew before being airlifted to hospital."

A second rider came off his bike near Invermoriston, about 11 miles from the first incident, shortly before 3pm.

Police Scotland said no other vehicle was involved in that incident.

Both motorcyclists were taken by helicopter to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

A section of the A82 was closed in both directions following the crashes. It reopened around 7pm.
