An investigation has been launched after police Tasered a man in Glen Shiel in the Highlands.

Officers used the stun device on the 47-year-old after being called to a disturbance on Thursday, September 1.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) is now investigating the incident.

A spokeswoman said: "The PIRC is carrying out an independent investigation into the discharge of a conducted energy device, commonly known as a Taser, by a Police Scotland officer on Thursday, September 1 2016.

"The Taser was discharged during an incident in the Glen Shiel area involving a 47-year-old man.

"The matter was referred by Police Scotland for investigation and a report on the PIRC's findings will be submitted to the deputy chief constable in due course."

All incidences of Police Scotland's use of firearms, including Tasers, must be referred to the PIRC for independent investigation.
