A man has been rescued from a flat fire in the Western Isles.

Stornoway fire brigade tackled the blaze at the first-floor property on Perceval Road South on Thursday evening.

The fire service said a man was removed from the flat and taken to the nearby Western Isles Hospital by ambulance.

Two fire appliances from Stornoway attended the incident after the alarm was raised at 6.12pm.

Four firefighters had to use breathing equipment during the rescue, with two hose reel jets used to extinguish the flames.

The condition of the casualty is not yet known.
