A driver has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a collision in Aberdeenshire.

The one-vehicle crash happened at 7.20am on Wednesday on the A98 between Macduff and New Pitsligo.

An air ambulance was dispatched to take the man to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary shortly after 9am.

The A98 has been shut while the emergency services remain on the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "There was a one vehicle collision on the A98 Macduff to New Pitsligo road reported to us at 7.24am.

"One male has been seriously injured and an air ambulance has been dispatched to take him to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary."
