A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court after the bomb squad was called out to a disused building.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested and charged following the discovery of a suspicious item at the building in Sheddocksley, Aberdeen.

The explosives experts are understood to have been told to stand down shortly after they arrived in the city.

Police said no one was in the property on Springhill Road at the time of the alleged incident at around 7.15pm on Monday.

The youngster from Aberdeen appeared at the city's sheriff court on Wednesday facing charges of attempted housebreaking with intent to steal and culpable and reckless conduct.

He made no plea and declaration and was released on bail. No further court appearances have been scheduled yet.
