A car has been set alight on a footpath next to a railway line.

Police and fire crews were called to the blaze at the old Deeside Railway Line in Aberdeen in the early hours of Tuesday.

They found a black Ford Focus on fire on a path behind Morrison Drive in the city at around 1.40am. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and an investigation has now been launched.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "Officers are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle described in the hours beforehand to contact police as investigations continue, in particular anyone who saw the car in the city-centre and Morrison Drive areas.

"Several positive lines of enquiry are being followed however anyone with additional information should contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you wish to remain anonymous."
