The co-leader of Aberdeenshire Council has been referred to the Standards Commission over a trip to Legoland.

A delegation led by Martin Kitts-Hayes was due to stay in chalets at Legoland Billund during a conference in Denmark earlier this month.

But Mr Kitts-Hayes flew home soon after arrival, claiming the "Wild West Cabins" booked by council staff were not good enough.

On Thursday, councillors "strongly urged" Mr Kitts-Hayes to report himself to the Standards Commission following an amendment by Liberal Democrat councillor Anne Robertson.

The original council motion stated it was seeking to establish "whether damage was done to the reputation of this council" his actions at the North Sea Commission General Assembly.

It was supported with the inclusion of an amendment "strongly urging" Mr Kitts-Hayes to report himself to the Standards Commission.

The body later confirmed that it had received a referral about Mr Kitts-Hayes. The local authority is expected to publish its own report in September.

The independent councillor declined to comment.
