An 80-year-old woman has been charged over a crash that left four pedestrians in hospital.

An 50-year-old woman was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious leg injuries after the accident in an Aberdeenshire car park.

Another woman, aged 49, also suffered leg injuries and was taken to ARI by ambulance.

Their injuries are described as "serious but not life-threatening".

The incident involving a Red Kia Venga and four pedestrians took place in The Square in Portsoy at around 2.40pm on Tuesday.

Another two women, aged 50 and 52, suffered minor injuries and it is understood all four casualties are still in hospital.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "An 80-year-old woman has been charged in connection with this incident and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

"In total, four vehicles were damaged in the collision involving pedestrians and other vehicles."

Enquires into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing and anyone with information that could help is being asked to contact police on 101.
