A Scots flight was forced to land due to a smell of smoke on board.

The Eastern Airways flight from Norwich to Aberdeen returned to Norwich at around 7.30am on Friday as a precaution after the pilot was alerted to the odour.

Fire crews at the airport were placed on stand-by but were not needed and engineers are now inspecting the flight. Passengers were transferred onto another flight.

A spokesman for Eastern Airways said: "The captain operating this morning's T3 722 flight from Norwich to Aberdeen made a precautionary return to Norwich to have the aircraft checked following an unusual odour in the cockpit.

"The Saab 2000 with 11 passengers and three crew on board landed safely in Norwich at 7.26am.

"The airport fire service was initially put on standby, but was stood down on arrival. Our engineers will be carrying out an inspection of the aircraft.

"Passengers are being transferred onto another aircraft to take them to their destination.

"We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience, but the safety of our passengers and crew is our primary concern."
