Police were called in to investigate the discovery of human remains in a new section of a graveyard.

Council workers had been digging a grave in the new section of Kirkton Cemetery in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, when they made the unexpected discovery on Monday.

They contacted police as a precaution but it emerged the bones were "archaeological".

A police spokeswoman said: "Police received a concern call from local authority workers after bones were found at Kirkton Cemetery, Fraserburgh on July 4, 2016.

"Enquiries were carried out and it was established there is no suspicious circumstances and that the bones are archaeological."
