A man who died when his car collided with an articulated lorry has been named.

Ben Abrahams, 32, suffered fatal injuries in the crash on the B979 near Westhill, to the west of Aberdeen, at around 8.30am on Thursday.

The driver of the lorry, a delivery vehicle for grocery chain Iceland, was uninjured.

Mr Abrahams, a petroleum engineer, lived in Torphins with his wife Kate and two young sons.

In a statement, his family said: "He is loved and respected and will be sadly missed by all his friends and family."

Following the accident the road was closed for several hours between the B9119 Cairnie road and the A944 route to Elrick while road collision investigators carried out inquiries.

Road policing sergeant Rob Warnock said: "My thoughts, and that of my officers, are very much with the family and friends of the man who sadly died in this dreadful collision."
