A microlight aircraft has crashed in Aberdeenshire with one person aboard.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident near Insch at 11.15am on Monday.

The aircraft was taking off from Grampian Microlight and Flying Club's private airstrip when it crashed in a field.

The pilot, who is a member of the club, has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but the extent of his injuries is unclear.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police were made aware at 11.15am about an incident involving a microlight aircraft with one person inside in the Premnay area."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman added: "The crash happened near a landing strip at Insch."
