A woman is fighting for her life after being struck by a car as she was crossing a bridge.

The 89-year-old pedestrian was hit by a blue Peugeot 208 being driven by a 65-year-old woman on the A920 South Road in Ellon around 10.35am on Saturday.

Emergency services were called and the woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she is currently being treated for life threatening injuries.

The woman driving the Peugeot 208 was uninjured.

Sergeant Rob Warnock, from the Aberdeenshire and Moray Road Policing Unit, said: "Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are at an early stage.

"I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the blue Peugeot 208 or the female pedestrian prior to the incident to contact Police Scotland on 101.''
