The speed limit on a stretch of the A90 could be cut to 40mph during work on the Aberdeen bypass.

A 50mph limit introduced at the start of the year between Murcar and Ellon could be slashed further as works progress, Transport Scotland said.

Average speed cameras have already been installed along the route in an effort to cut the number of speeding drivers.

A Transport Scotland spokesman said: "The speed limit was reduced to 50mph between the Murcar roundabout and the Ellon roundabout to ensure road workers could continue to construct the new road safely while road users continue to use the A90.

"As works progress, the speed restriction may require to be reduced to 40mph on sections of the A90 between Murcar and Ellon.
