Two teenagers reportedly tried to set an eight-year-old boy's clothes on fire in Aberdeen.

The child was playing Pokemon Go with his 12-year-old brother in the Bucksburn area when they were approached by two older youths on Saturday.

The teenagers reportedly began harassing the boys, who have learning difficulties, and tried to set the younger boy's Aberdeen Football Club top alight.

He escaped unharmed after a passing woman went to his aid - but his mother said he is still "extremely upset" and believes the boys may "come back".

Their mother said: "My sons were sitting in the Garden of Remembrance in Bucksburn, hunting for Pokemon.

"Two older teenagers came along and started harassing them, calling them names and threatening to set fire to them. My boys have special needs and were terrified.

"They chased our sons from there to Inverurie Road with a lighter and then set fire to the back of my eight-year-old son's AFC top. Luckily it didn't go up in flames.

"A local women went to their aid - we still haven't identified her - and checked my son was okay. He is still extremely upset, thinking the boys are coming back."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said officers are "following positive lines of inquiry".

Hundreds of people responded to an appeal for information about the alleged attack on social media.

One person offered a signed AFC top to replace the child's damaged kit and another said they would donate a signed Aberdeen-branded ball.
