Sixty jobs are under threat at Scottish engineering firm Score, it has been announced.

The majority of the posts are expected to go at its headquarters in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.

The firm said restructuring and recent contract wins had failed to avert the need for redundancies.

But Score, which employs more than 1700 people across the UK, said there will be no redundancies within its award-winning modern apprenticeship programme.

A spokesman added: "The company is entering into a consultation process over potential redundancies within several of its UK facilities.

"Despite internal restructuring, business diversification, contract wins and efficiency drives over the past 18 month period a larger redundancy program has regretfully become unavoidable."

They continued: "This is primarily due to the continued low oil price and industry downturn which has had a major impact upon the sectors in which we operate.

"The workforce were advised last week of the potential redundancies and the eventual loss of 60 posts is anticipated.

"This will affect personnel UK-wide, however the majority of redundancies are likely to be in Scotland."
